UX is concerned with larger area than UI design. In order to improve the experience users have when using the products, we need to involve all departments so that we could optimize the solution from the source of problems.
While UI might focus more on usability, UX also emphasize on the good feeling of reaching the goal and safety.
There is a good routine to follow when we want to improve ux: define the target user → find their user story → do user observation and interview to correct the user story to more realistic one → Collect items to improve based on user story and assign piority based on point from different aspect: user needs, different from other compatitors, easy to realize…
The drill → hole → bookshelf story. Don't forget the original purpose (the value in your design)
Tips:
not every idea given by design side is desired by users. Should focus on those real user needs.
Go to company homepage and read those messages by CEO, etc. Usually in between the lines you can find what they want their user experience to be like.
When doing user interview, asking about their story is better than asking how they operate the machine. Because story is the easiest to remember.
High management people are easier to persuade when you show your statement together with the comparison with compatitors companies.
