US VISA

Business/Tourist Visa (B1/B2)

Note: You can apply via mail if your last visa expired within 48 months + there is no “CLEARANCE RECEIVED” text on your previous visa.

Step.1 Fill DS160 document

  • Read guideline
  • write and submit
  • get an 10 digit number
  • print a copy
  • One 2×2 inch photo

Step.2 Schedule an interview

  • Pay Visa Fee → get a 12 digits receipt number
  • Schedule an appointment with the 12 and 10 digit number
  • Note: try it the next day if you cannot get an early appointment you like. Sometimes they just magically appears

How to get multiple entrance

  • For business visit (B1 Visa): Have a introduction letter from your company, proving that you need to enter USA multiple times in the future, so that you could get a 10 year VISA.
  • For tourist visit (B2 Visa): single or multiple entrance is decided by the officer who interviews you. He will decide basing on your condition. No special document needed.

Supporting Documents to bring to interview

  • Zairyu card copy
  • Current proof of income, tax payments, property or business ownership, or assets.
  • Your travel itinerary and/or other explanation about your planned trip. (better be very detailed)
  • A letter from your employer detailing your position, salary, how long you have been employed, any authorized vacation, and the business purpose, if any, of your U.S. trip.
  • Criminal/court records pertaining to any arrest or conviction anywhere, even if you completed your sentence or were later pardoned.
  • latest school results, transcripts and degrees/diplomas.
  • CV

Timeline

First time

  • Jan 12th: Submitted DS160, reserved interview.
  • February 5th: Visa interview. (I also mailed some supplementary material later)
  • March 2nd: mailed my passport to embassy.
  • March 6th: Visa was issued.

Second time

  • Aug 6th: Submitted DS160, reserved interview
  • Aug 23th: Visa interview
  • Sep 21st: Visa review going through final stage
  • Sep 22nd: Received my passport from Ayobas Premium delivery
  • Sep 25th: fly to US

Third time

  • Nov 28th: Submitted DS160, reserved interview at Feb 20th
  • Nov 29th: check the website again, got an interview slot at Dec 12th

Forth time

- Feb 23th: Submitted DS160, reserved interview - Mar 13th: email from embassy, asking me to fill my Chinese name in the application - Mar 17th: Visa interview

  • LS:你说我是先买飞机票还是先办签证？便宜的飞机票不能退，万一签证没办成就完了….
  • LZY:当然先办签证
  • LS:好！那旅馆啥时候订呢？
  • LZY:旅馆先定一个，因为办签证需要住宿信息，签证下来后再调整宾馆
  • LZY:一般情况下宾馆都可以提前几天取消
